Visa & Travel Info

Visa Information

Most participants from countries with visa-waiver agreements (e.g., the United States, EU countries, Japan, Singapore) can enter the Republic of Korea without a visa for stays up to 90 days for academic purposes.

Participants from other countries (e.g., China, Russia, Vietnam) may need to apply for a C-3 Short-Term Visit Visa. Please check your visa requirement via the official Korea Visa Portal.

When asked for the purpose of your visit, choose: “Short Term Visit”.

Invitation Letter

If you need an official invitation letter for visa purposes, please contact:

  • scet26@korea.ac.kr

Please include the following information:

  • Full name (as in passport)
  • Passport number
  • Nationality
  • Affiliation and the address
  • Expected travel period

We carefully checked the requirements for the visa invitation letter, and it seems best to include additional details—like your passport number and date of birth—to ensure the process goes smoothly. We understand this is sensitive information. If you are uncomfortable sharing it, we can simply write the information that you provide us.

From Incheon International Airport (ICN) to City Hall Area Hotels

For those staying near City Hall Station, we recommend the following two options:

  • Option 1: Airport Limousine Bus No. 6701 (Recommended)
    • This is the most convenient option if you have heavy luggage, as it drops you off near major hotels.
    • Route: Incheon Airport → Seoul
    • Where to get off: Gwanghwamun(Korean Hotel) stop (approx. 70–90 min)
    • Bus Stop at Airport: Terminal 1 (Stop 3B/4A), Terminal 2 (Stop 18/19)
    • Fare: 18,000 KRW
    • Tickets: Purchase at the indoor/outdoor ticket booths before boarding.
    • Airport Bus Stop Map: Terminal 1 / Terminal 2
  • Option 2: AREX (Airport Railroad) + Taxi/Subway
    • This is the fastest and most punctual option, avoiding potential traffic jams.
    • Route: Incheon Airport → Seoul Station (Non-stop)
    • Where to get off: Seoul Station (approx. 43–51 min)
    • From Seoul Station: Take a taxi (5–10 min) or transfer to Subway Line 1 to City Hall Stn.
    • Fare: 13,000 KRW
    • Tickets: Purchase at the AREX Information Center or automated ticket machines.

* If you are staying at the KIAS Guest House, please refer to the To the Venue link above.

From Gimpo International Airport (GMP) to City Hall Area Hotels

Gimpo Airport is located much closer to the city center. We recommend the following two subway options for a direct or easy transfer:

  • Option 1: Subway Line 5 (Purple Line) - Most Direct
    • Take Line 5 from Gimpo Airport Station and get off at Gwanghwamun Station.
    • Travel Time: Approx. 40 min.
    • Notice: Most recommended hotels (Koreana, New Seoul, etc.) are a 5–10 min walk from Gwanghwamun Station. This is the best option to avoid transfers.
  • Option 2: AREX (Airport Railroad) + Subway Line 1
    • Take the AREX (All-stop train) to Seoul Station, then transfer to Subway Line 1 (Dark Blue) for one stop to City Hall Station.
    • Travel Time: Approx. 35 min.
    • Notice: This is slightly faster but requires one transfer at the large Seoul Station.

Taxi: A taxi to the City Hall area costs approximately 25,000–35,000 KRW and takes about 40 minutes.
